ANTIBIOTICS Overuse

Antibiotic resistance has been described as one of the world’s most worrying public health problems, with nearly all significant bacterial infections in the world becoming resistant to commonly prescribed antibiotic treatments.

Antibiotics kill bacteria but CANNOT kill viruses.

RESTRAIN your child His life depends on it

Surprisingly, it is not yet a legal requirement to have a child restraint (child seat) fitted in your car, although it is the law to use seatbelts and car seats that are already fitted.

I am not going to mince my words here or gently try to persuade you to strap your child in for a car journey. Your child’s life is at stake every time he travels unrestrained in a car.

CPR/First Aid Training - To Do or Not to Do?

Perish the thought that your idea of medical related training is strictly for those involved in the medical profession or medical related jobs!

The POWER of PLAY

When children play they learn about all kinds of things, act out their experiences and develop motor skills while they are at it. A baby learns that if he drops his spoon there will be a noise when it hits the floor and then someone will pick it up for him.

How to Encourage Reading

In the South African society of today, young children are very unlikely to become readers. A recent study shows that the standard of reading among South African children around the ages of 11 – 12 has deteriorated so badly that we are currently the world’s second worst readers.

EXTREMEly Impressive

Do you ever wonder who holds all the power in your household? In theory the answer should be you and your partner but in reality it can sometimes be the ankle-biters.

READING such a civilised hobby!

In this techno world of playstations, gameboys and television, reading is a kids’ hobby that is taking a back seat to the detriment of their vocabulary, spelling and grammatical skills. Being able to read and write is just about essential in everyday life.

Germs, Infection, Disease

Reduce the risks of catching diseases

Children in childcare or schools can be two or three times more likely to be infected with a disease.
Many illnesses are contagious before symptoms appear.

Young children are more at risk because they have yet to be exposed to many of the most common germs and so have not been able to build up a natural resistance to them.

How are your child's Manners?

This is a difficult and sometimes distressing question for every parent. The issue is to define what manners are before you will be able to answer it effectively.

Important Values

We live in a society where things are taken for granted to a large extent. Many parents are from a generation where things were given to children without them knowing where it came from and what it took to be able to buy it, which, in turn, is a result of a generation that grew up with very few luxuries in life and want their children to have what they didn't.
